Association of the Physically Disabled (APDM)

APDM, which was established in 1999, was registered last year 2005, with a vision: for people with physical disabilities to become self-reliant and to participate fully in social life and national development.

APDM’s main activities so far are awareness raising and the mobilization of members the organization boasts of over a 1,000 members in Mulanje, Nkhotakhota, Balaka, Lilongwe and Mangochi.

Their project proposal to FEDOMA got approved funding to establish a branch in Neno and currently they are meeting the District Executive Committee to brief them about their organization.

APDM did not have a women’s wing but the female members lobbied the executive committee on the need for the formation of one and so far the aims and objectives and structure have been developed for the wing.

The women have already mobilized 5 women’s clubs in Blantyre: Kanjedza, Chemusa, Manassi, Machinjiri and Bangwe with 43 members who have been encouraged to apply for Malawi Rural Development Fund (MADERF) loans.
